As the dairy and food industries have evolved over the last 50 years, so too have market demands towards hygienic packaging. At Anuga FoodTec 2018 we identified four key topics that were brought to the attention of our experts by many visitors.
Sensitive products, including baby food, clinical nutrition and café latte drinks, need extra protection from external factors. Many visitors shared their concern of the damage potential cross-contamination could inflict in terms of product recalls and loss of consumer trust. The only way to achieve peace of mind and avoid reputational damage is by investing in equipment that is easy to operate, maintain and clean while eliminating any areas that can cause product contamination. For example, check out the RFS-Series rotary machine crafted with ultra-hygienic stainless steel, offering complete wash down capability plus CIP to optimize sanitary conditions and simplify the cleaning process. Many of the conversations at the booth revolved around organizational health and safety concerns. A common concern are the implications of handling sensitive products on the workforce and we discussed potential ways to improve processes wherever possible. A good example is our advanced sterilization system with controlled dosing of hydrogen peroxide, which can help to create a safer working environment for your employees. The latest ultra-clean and aseptic FCL machines for example, are equipped with a smaller sterile chamber which improves product control and ensures a safe and hygienic production.
For many visitors at Anuga FoodTec, promotions, seasonal fluctuations and ever-changing consumer preferences, coupled with intense competition on supermarket shelves, require flexibility with regard to pack style, size or packaging content. Even high-hygiene equipment must fit these demands and should allow for tool-less changeovers that can easily be executed and replicated in the future. As more and more manufacturers upgrade their machines, format flexibility is becoming a sine qua non for keeping up with the competition.
The last, but certainly not least, important question from the crowd was about production efficiency. As with any investment, overall equipment effectiveness and life-cycle costs are an important consideration. By investing in a filling machine with improved hygienic design, you can benefit from reductions in cleaning, sterilization times and elongations in production cycles. As a result, production output increases, maintenance costs can go down, and amortization times improve – which could lead to a positive impact on your bottom line.
