Recognition for innovative and sustainable technologies

VFFS machine has been honoured with the German Packaging Award 2017

The sensor-controlled product detection and adaptivity of the concept machine SVC 1820 BH has been honored with the German Packaging Award 2017. The award is presented on an annual basis by the German Packaging Institute (Deutsches Verpackungsinstitut – dvi). The vertical form, fill and seal machine SVC 1820 BH convinced the jury with sensors inside the forming tube.

The patented sensor-controlled product detection of the SVC 1820 BH is one of Bosch’s Industry 4.0 features, allowing to detect the product while it is falling and adjusting the sealing process automatically. Therefore, the sealing jaws only close when there is no product in between, minimizing machine downtime resulting in an increased OEE. Moreover, it also reduces the risk of contamination, thereby complying with the ever-demanding food safety regulations. Additionally, the adaptivity of the machine contributes to a sustainable production by reducing waste of product, film and energy.

The jurors rated a total of 200 projects from twelve countries and rewarded the best innovations in ten categories. “By winning the German Packaging Award, enterprises show their outstanding innovative power and make a strong statement,” says Dr. Bettina Horenburg, dvi Board Member and person in charge of the German Packaging Award.

Green Packaging Star Award

Bosch’s Sealed Paper Packaging has been honoured with the Green Packaging Star Award in the section „Save Food“. The award is presented on an annual basis by the magazine Kompack and the Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology (ofi). Additionally, our Sealed Paper Packaging received the ARA (Altstoff Recycling Austria) special prize as it contains no additional polymer fractions. The secret lies in the characteristics of the Axello® paper by BillerudKorsnäs.

The jury was convinced by the fully recyclable paper packaging as it conserves resources and reduces waste, which supports the basic idea of the Green Star Packaging Award. On September 21, 2017 was the official award presentation in Vienna.

The first Sealed Paper Packaging is a dry food packaging made from 100% primary, renewable fibres from Scandinavian forests.

Packaging Europe Sustainability Award

Bosch Packaging Technology and BillerudKorsnäs’ collaboration on Sealed Paper Packaging has won the 2017 Sustainability Awards in the Bio-Based Packaging category. The international jury recognized Sealed Paper Packaging specifically for its unique combination of mono-material Axello® paper from BillerudKorsnäs and the ZAP-Module from Bosch Packaging Technology, which together enable the production of 100 percent dust-tight yet fully recyclable packaging for dry products such as sugar, grains and flour.

The philosophy behind the Sustainability Awards is to promote innovative solutions throughout the packaging supply chain that make outstanding contributions to sustainability. In its third year, the competition is organized by Packaging Europe, a leading trade magazine for packaging professionals all over the world.
