Bio-Nahrungsmittel, an Austrian health product company, packages premium-quality organic food such as dried fruit, nuts, snacks, seeds and cereals. To meet growing and ever-changing consumer demands, Bio-Nahrungsmittel was looking for a new packaging line to incorporate a reclosable doy-style bag, while also supporting the company’s high output levels and frequent product changeovers. Utilizing Bosch equipment since the 1980s, the company turned to its long-term partner.
New style for on-shelf differentiation
To date, the company is using seven machines from Bosch and packages 24 to 25 million bags per year with a filling volume of 100 to 1 000 grams. However, its existing, standard vertical form, fill and seal machines were not capable of adding the new pack style. Low interference for process reliability was also important for handling gas-tight film to package delicate products.
To meet the needs of Bio-Nahrungsmittel, Bosch provided the intermittent vertical bagger SVI 2620. The new reclosable doy-style bag complemented Bio-Nahrungsmittel’s portfolio with a premium look and allows the company to differentiate its products on store shelves. It also enables Bio-Nahrungsmittel to package its products in high-quality bags with secure seals due to long sealing times.
Keeping its options open
The need to adapt to fluctuating consumer demands made the requirements for the new machine even more challenging. There are periods when consumers prefer nuts and other times when dried fruits are all the rage. Thus, Bio-Nahrungsmittel needed flexible machines that allow rapid changeover of products and pack styles.
The SVI 2620 offers the ultimate in flexibility with retrofitting options to produce a wide variety of bag styles, including pillow, side gussetted, block-bottom, corner seal and doy-style bags with optional zippers. A key feature of the SVI 2620 is easy changeover. To change between different bags, the operator simply changes the format set with minimal downtime, for overall equipment efficiency savings.
