Modern packaging methods for traditional pack styles

The German snacks manufacturer Lorenz Snack-World wanted to boost output levels for its signature snack, NicNac’s, the beloved nut treat with a crunchy coating. The company sought a new, flexible system with a small footprint capable of gentle product handling. Following a successful project in 2009, the company again decided to turn to Bosch Packaging Technology for a complete line solution.

Utilizing expertise from across its various sites, Bosch delivered an integrated system for primary and secondary packaging that met all of Lorenz’s expectations.

Fast and flexible primary and secondary packaging

The new packaging line combines the SVE 2510 AT Twin version vertical flow wrapper for primary packaging from Bosch with its Elematic 3000 S for secondary packaging. The SVE 2510 AT Twin version produces 100 block-bottom bags per minute with filling levels of 125 grams, requiring only a small footprint. Consisting of two machines, the SVE Twin version gives Lorenz a flexible and low-disruption production process for the NicNac’s. In case one machine is undergoing scheduled maintenance, the second continues to run, avoiding a complete production shutdown. This results in less downtime and achieves higher productivity.

At 100 bags per minute and lane, the block-bottom bags are transported via two lanes to the Elematic 3000 S, the secondary packaging system. Bosch developed a modular twin grouping system ensuring that the various product streams are balanced. The bags are gently packaged via a wrap-around lowering method, creating a shelf-ready package. Working with a single supplier for the entire packaging line, Lorenz is now able to concentrate on its core competencies knowing that Bosch will ensure efficient packaging. In case service support is needed, Bosch’s technical expertise will be immediately available, avoiding unnecessary downtime and production stoppages. “The long-term experience of Bosch gave us a reliable partner for our project,” said Joachim Jeremias, Production and Engineering Manager at Lorenz Nuss GmbH. “Now we can focus on developing new products while operating with increased efficiency.”
