As one of the longest established pharmaceutical services companies, Penn Pharma has over 30 years of experience in providing integrated drug development, manufacturing and support services to the international healthcare industry. An important component for their success: latest equipment with highest safety standards. Penn is currently expanding their production of potent substances. For this purpose, Bosch will supply a new capsule filling machine with containment.
Safety meets flexibility
“We ran a very comprehensive supplier bidding process. Bosch’s innovative cleaning technology combined with a strong project management approach made them our preferred supplier,” said Mark Dean-Netscher, COO at Penn Pharma. “We needed to implement a flexible engineering solution that puts employee safety, regulatory compliance and reproductive batch scale-up central to our design philosophy.” With the Bosch GKF HiProTect, researchers and manufacturers are completely isolated from active substances during operation, maintenance, and cleaning. An array of automated processes guarantees a true containment solution.
The Bosch technology allows a variety of sizes and product types to be produced, such as any combination of powders, pellets or tablets filled into hard capsules. The capsule filling process and two stages of checkweighing are integrated in one platform which provides statistical capsule control. “Most importantly, Bosch’s innovative cleaning technology provides excellent confidence in cleaning the equipment from product to product and preventing cross-contamination,” explained Richard Yarwood, CEO at Penn Pharma. Penn will receive the first GKF HiProTect with an in-line Washing in Place (WIP) deduster for capsules. “We believe our customers will be delighted by the new service we can offer with the Bosch equipment,” Yarwood added. Penn’s new UK facility is scheduled to open in early 2013 – equipped with the first commercial GKF HighProTect.
