At FCE Pharma 2012 in São Paulo, Brazil, we showcase the equipment of our recent acquisitions in inspection and process technology, complemented by a variety of packaging solutions. This includes manual and semi-automatic inspection systems from Eisai Machinery, the Hüttlin Mycrolab and Unilab laboratory fluid bed systems, and the ARF 1010/1020 filling and closing machine for open and closed ampoules.
Inspection technology from basic to high-end
In April 2012, the acquisition of the machinery business companies of Eisai Co., Ltd (namely Eisai Machinery) was finalized. The portfolio ranges from basic inspection solutions to fully automated high-performance systems for liquid and solid pharmaceuticals. At FCE, Eisai Machinery presents manual inspection hoods for vials, ampoules, syringes and cartridges, as well as the APK visual observation tool for particle and container inspection. According to container sizes, it can be equipped with halogen or LED lighting, side and back light systems, adjustable spin speed and a high resolution camera. The APK is applied for laboratory inspection, sample sets and individual testing, and is suited for very small batches.
Cooperation with university for research purposes
At FCE Pharma, equipment from Hüttlin and Bosch Packaging Technology Ltd. (formerly Manesty), acquired by Bosch Packaging Technology in the previous year, will be on display. A Hüttlin Mycrolab laboratory fluid bed designed for batch sizes ranging from 0.05 to one kilogram is exhibited in cooperation with the University of São Paulo, where it is used for students’ research & development (R&D) as well as for training purposes in the classroom. The unit can be filled either manually or by pneumatic suction and is cleaned by means of compressed air. Research data can optionally be transferred to and recorded on an external computer by use of the MycrOP software. “The equipment is very useful for our R&D activities and we have published some papers which include results from this research,” says Prof. Dr. Humberto G. Ferraz from the pharmaceutical department of the University of São Paulo.
According to the same construction principle, the larger multi-purpose laboratory fluid bed device Hüttlin Unilab processes batch sizes of 0.2 to six kilograms. Its transparent glass cylinder offers high process control and visibility. The spraying system of the three-component nozzle ensures an optimum mixture and homogeneous coating. Adhesion of the product is prevented by the patented process gas distributor blade Diskjet. The reproducible results can be transferred to production equipment with the NexStep software.
Latin American debut for the ampoules filling machine ARF 1010/1020
The ARF 1010/1020 filling and closing machine makes its first trade show appearance in Latin America. The rotary platform is designed for filling and closing of open and closed ampoules and can optionally be transformed into a combined filling machine for ampoules and injection vials. The flexible layout easily allows for the retrofitting and upgrading of working stations. With output rates of up to 120 products per minute, the ARF 1010/1020 was developed for the industrial production of small batches. The machine has a compact design and is easily accessible. It furthermore offers laminar flow friendly working stations. Gentle container transportation and 100 percent in-process weight control contribute to high quality assurance and increased safety during production.
