Bosch Packaging Technology is expanding its operations in China and enlarging its site in Hangzhou. The company has invested 1.1 million Euros / 9.6 million Yuan in the expansion.
The Chinese site of Hangzhou in the province Zhejiang serves the pharmaceutical as well as food and confectionery industries. The site has continuously expanded since its foundation in 2001. Meanwhile, Bosch Packaging Technology has developed into the largest local supplier of packaging machinery. In 2011, the site celebrates the tenth anniversary together with the 125th anniversary of the Robert Bosch Group. The festivities on October 21st were held together with the inauguration of 1,400 square meters of new office area providing space for about 120 new associates. In 2010, the company already doubled its production capacity, extending the shopfloor area to 9,000 square meters. Now, the office building has been enlarged by a third floor. “We have invested 1.1 million Euros in the new office area, making it a total investment of about 10 million Euros since we established the site,” says Friedbert Klefenz, President of Bosch Packaging Technology. The final size of the site has not yet been reached, though. In 2012, another 5.000 square meters will be added to the shopfloor. Further expansions in China are being planned. “Ten years ago, we started with 14 employees,” explains General Manager Walter Häcki. “Today, the site has a staff of 380, produces 400 machines each year, and the growth seems to be never ending.” From its Hangzhou base, the company delivers mainly into the Chinese market. The annual growth rates of the industries supplied by Bosch – pharmaceuticals, food and confectionery – are about 15 per cent in China. Bosch Packaging Technology, however, is growing more quickly than the markets, and thus is gaining market share. In the past two years, the company quadrupled its sales of locally manufactured products in China. The biggest boom, Häcki says, is in pharmaceuticals. The Chinese Bosch site produces not only standard solutions tailored to local needs, such as Pack111, a horizontal flow wrapper in the medium output range, but also, in its main business of pharmaceuticals, complete packaging lines that meet pharmaceutical standards worldwide.
