OEE Consulting from Bosch for optimum utilization of resources

OEE Consulting

Efficient packaging reduces costs

As competition intensifies, increasing efficiency continues to be a main objective of food and pharmaceutical manufacturers. To support this, Bosch offers its new consulting service to detect process-disturbing factors, such as downtime, low machine output and product waste. “Every minute of production counts and it is therefore crucial for manufacturers to determine the exact causes of losses to maximize overall line efficiency,” says Roland Pichler, Manager OEE Consulting at Bosch Packaging Technology.

The structured approach identifies causes of losses in availability, performance and quality, suggests improvements and implements individually tailored solutions. Bosch specialists work closely together with manufacturers throughout the whole process. They offer expertise and technical know-how to ensure productivity and optimization of profits in the long-term.

Profit through investment

The OEE Consulting service starts with an OEE audit, where Bosch experts review the current manufacturing set up including individual machines and entire packaging lines. Production data is gathered in three key areas: machine availability, performance and output quality. A detailed, statistical evaluation of the data gathered follows. Reviewing machine availability data allows Bosch to identify sources of unplanned downtime. Performance assessments determine the amount of output not rendered due to machines performing below optimum speed level. Finally, output quality is analyzed to identify the loss of time manufacturing products not meeting quality standards. Bosch conducts the evaluation of these three factors over an extended period of time. The data is summarized in a report to provide insights into overall line efficiency.

Detailed action plan

Based on the audit’s findings, Bosch experts elaborate a detailed plan of action, presenting the root causes of any losses and suggesting improvement measures. These aim at increasing line efficiency by reduction of downtime and waste, optimization of the process flow, enhancing machine output and boosting quality. Recommendations might include the installation of new equipment or modernization of existing hardware. Also preventive maintenance activities such as maintenance team training might be suggested. As part of the OEE Consulting service, Bosch offers continuous performance monitoring of achieved improvements and  furthermore provides ongoing advice on additional line adjustments.

  1. There is no industry standard for calculation of the OEE value. The term Overall Equipment Effectiveness takes into account the most common and significant sources of manufacturing productivity loss and organizes them into three classes: Availability, Performance and Quality. All three factors, and OEE itself, are generally expressed as percentages, allowing for ease of comparison and improvement measurements. These are specific for each company. hello,

Is there any information about the packaging line’s OEE value for Pharmaceutical Industry? I could not find a world standart about this issue.

thank you for your new support.

  3. Thank you for your comment. The data for the OEE calculation is either coming from an existing data system from the customer, or will be collected via a mobile data collection system from Bosch, which will be attached to the packaging line. The gathered data will be analysed offline by our OEE specialist. There will be no changes or software needed at the machine. I’ll contact you via E-Mail to clarify your request more in detail.

This is good. Is there going to be a software or attachments that will gather data for down time and breakdowns with reasons to give OEE?
